8 Must Have Dishes in Gujarati Wedding Menu

Food and weddings have a connection that is simply unbreakable and not to forget the vital role of culture in deciding the delectable menu at any wedding! And so, like any tradition, some delicacies of Gujarat can never be replaced by western dishes even if the wedding is at some upstate luxury hotels in Ahmedabad!

 The delicious dhoklas

Nothing can beat the taste of this appetising Gujarati starter. Neither grilled nor fried, this steamed delicacy is served hot with garlic and coriander chutney. Dhoklas are healthy to munch on and delicious too.  Handvo

Baked like a cake but spicy and salty in taste, this Gujarati delicacy is a must have for weddings. Not only is it delicious but a great appetiser too. Lilva or Green Peas Kachori

Paatra

Delightful to munch on, Patra is a delicacy that is sweet, spicy as well as salty in taste. It is prepared by stuffing batter made by chickpea flour into colocasia leaves (Arbi leaves). You can relish this dish as deep fried, steamed or shallow fried. Coconut and sesame seasoning enhances its flavour!


Methi Pakora

Another starter that you mustn’t miss out at a Gujarati wedding is methi pakoras. Best for serving in monsoon weddings, this hot spicy delicacy is prepared by deep frying chickpea batter that’s mixed with methi leaves. Have it hot with scrumptious coriander chutney and enjoy it with tea or soup!


Undhiyu

Best to relish in winters, this hot, dry and spicy Gujarati dish tastes gorgeous with freshly fried puris. It is prepared from seasonal winter vegetables such as green beans with some usual ones like potatoes and unripe bananas amongst others.


Stuffed Okra or Bharela Bhinda


Masala Bhindi is a usual delicacy that can be savoured at every other restaurant or sometimes prepared even at homes. But this Gujarati version of it ‘Bharela Bhinda’ is one to die for. Stuffed with a variety of variants, this vegetable is a must have for every Gujarati wedding!
 



Gujarati Dal

Now comes the turn of patent Gujarati dish, the sweet-salty tasting ‘The Gujarati Dal’. Best savoured with hot steamed rice, this popular Indian Toor dal is made differently in Gujarat. It is wonderfully garnished with coriander leaves, tomatoes, peanuts, mustard seeds and green chillies.
